Updated October 12, 2026. We update this page as brands announce.

There is no single color of the year for 2027. Each paint brand names its own, and as of October 12, 2026, the big US picks are Sherwin-Williams Celery (SW 6421), Behr Grounded (T27-01), Valspar Cottage Door (8004-38E) and Glidden Artifact (PPG10-16), joined by Dunn-Edwards, Dutch Boy, C2, Clark+Kensington, Minwax and others. Benjamin Moore and Pantone have not announced yet.

Every pick below is checked against the brand's own announcement or reputable trade coverage, with the code exactly as the brand publishes it. Where a brand has not published a hex value or LRV (light reflectance value), we leave it blank rather than guess.

One more: Homes & Gardens has reported that British brand Little Greene chose Marle, a soft mid-brown, but other coverage describes Little Greene's release as a broader palette rather than a single color of the year, and we could not confirm it on Little Greene's own site. We will add it to the table if the brand confirms.

The big four US picks, up close

Sherwin-Williams: Celery (SW 6421)

Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams announced Celery jointly on September 15, 2026, the second year in a row the two brands shared a pick. Sherwin-Williams calls it "an airy, herbal green" with subtle yellow undertones. Its color data lists hex E0DDBD and an LRV of 71.3, which makes it a light color that will not darken a room.

Celery comes out of Sherwin-Williams' 2027 Colormix forecast, Rewild, where it is one of 10 "Continuity Colors" meant to stay relevant beyond a single season. Sherwin-Williams' suggested pairings include White Flour (SW 7102), Artichoke (SW 6179), Cocoon (SW 6173) and Plum Brown (SW 6272).

Where it works: north-facing rooms that need lift, kitchens with natural wood, and bedrooms. Watch the yellow undertone under warm bulbs; it can go buttery.

Behr: Grounded (T27-01)

Behr announced Grounded on August 26, 2026, marking the 10th year of its color of the year program. Behr describes it as an earthy olive green that shifts between olive and moss, with subtle brown undertones. It is sold at The Home Depot. Behr also reintroduced seven legacy colors in its 2027 palette to pair with it, including Coastal Beige, Wheat Grass and Denim Light.

Where it works: living rooms, kitchens (including cabinets) and exteriors. It is a mid-to-deep tone, so pair it with lighter trim.

Valspar: Cottage Door (8004-38E)

Valspar was first out of the gate on August 5, 2026. Valspar's director of color marketing, Sue Kim, described Cottage Door as "a colorful new neutral" with both warm and cool undertones. Valspar suggests pairing it with Moon Shot (8005-2B), a soft warm gray, and Apricot Blush (8003-8A), a muted creamy pink. It is sold at Lowe's and independent retailers.

Where it works: bedrooms, bathrooms and living rooms where you want color without drama. It behaves like a denim blue next to oak and walnut.

Glidden and Pittsburgh Paints: Artifact (PPG10-16)

Both brands, part of The Pittsburgh Paints Company, named Artifact on September 14, 2026. Glidden describes a warm, smoky blue and frames it as a shift away from cool grays; Glidden's Ashley McCollum called it "that perfect 'hit reset' color." Glidden is sold at The Home Depot, Walmart and Amazon.

Where it works: as a replacement for gray on main walls. It is grayer and softer than Cottage Door.

The other 2027 picks

Dunn-Edwards: French Press Coffee (DEBN07). A deep brown with plum undertones. Dunn-Edwards' color page lists hex 4C4346 and an LRV of 6, so this is a near-black that needs good light or a deliberate moody plan. Color marketing manager Lauren Hoferkamp said it "reveals itself gradually" as the plum shows in changing light.

Dutch Boy: Deep Rooted (311-7DB). A warm, earthy orange in the terracotta range, sold only at Menards. Dutch Boy built three 2027 palettes around it (Essence, Bliss and Clarity).

C2 Paint: Pueblo (C2-510). A rosy, earthy brown that C2 says shifts between earth, rose and brown with the light. Companions include Death by Chocolate (C2-805), Ambrosia (C2-529) and Element (C2-685).

Clark+Kensington: Vantage Point (38B-4). Ace Hardware's paint brand chose "a softened blue" meant to work across many rooms and styles, with companion palettes called Drift and Mellow.

Minwax: Pickled Oak (MW260). A wood stain, not a wall paint. Minwax calls it "a light, soft neutral with gentle warm undertones" that lets the grain show through.

Graham & Brown: Rose Earth. A UK brand pick: "a warm, earthy dusky pink with subtle brown undertones," inspired by Italian clay pigments.

Dulux: Soulful Sage. AkzoNobel's global pick, a soft, silvery green chosen through its annual ColourFutures research. Note this is the Dulux sold in the UK, Europe and other markets, not a US paint line.

PPG: Country Soil (PPG15-30). A muted mix of beige, taupe and gray, sold through PPG brands in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia. Not the same as the US Pittsburgh Paints pick.

California Paints: Quiet Peace. A deep blue anchoring an 11-color palette.

WGSN and Coloro: Luminous Blue. Not a paint brand pick. It is the forecasting industry's 2027 color, a bright lapis-like blue announced in June 2025.

Not announced yet (as of October 12, 2026)

We will not guess these. Past timing comes from each brand's previous announcement.

What the 2027 picks have in common

Put the picks side by side and three families appear:

  • Muted greens: Celery, Grounded, Soulful Sage.
  • Warm browns and clay: French Press Coffee, Pueblo, Rose Earth, Country Soil, plus the terracotta Deep Rooted.
  • Softened blues: Cottage Door, Artifact, Vantage Point, Quiet Peace.

What is missing is just as telling: no cool grays and no stark whites. Multifamily Executive's roundup of the season describes brands moving away from cool grays and stark whites toward earthy greens, rich browns and calming blues, and Glidden said as much about Artifact. Almost every brand also pitched its color as a "neutral" of some kind, which is good news for anyone who wants to use these on full walls rather than a single accent wall.

Past colors of the year for context

2026 picks

The 2026 season leaned warm and dark:

  • Sherwin-Williams: Universal Khaki (SW 6150), an earthy tan
  • Benjamin Moore: Silhouette (AF-655), espresso brown with charcoal notes
  • Behr: Hidden Gem, a smoky jade
  • Valspar: Warm Eucalyptus, a warm green
  • Glidden / Pittsburgh Paints: Warm Mahogany, a red-brown
  • Dutch Boy: Melodious Ivory, a creamy neutral
  • Dunn-Edwards: Midnight Garden (DE5657), a deep muted green
  • C2: Epernay
  • Clark+Kensington: Hazelnut Crunch, a rusty red
  • Minwax: Special Walnut
  • Pantone: Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201), a soft white

2025 picks (selected)

Benjamin Moore chose Cinnamon Slate (2113-40), a plum-brown, and Krylon chose Hammered Black. Read across 2025, 2026 and 2027 and the arc is clear: brown and earthy tones have been building for three years, and 2027 adds green and blue on top rather than replacing them.

How to try a color of the year before you buy

A trend color is only worth it if it works in your light, with your floors. Here is the order that wastes the least money:

  1. Preview on a photo of your room. Use our paint tool to repaint your actual walls with a real brand color, or the free visualizer below to compare a few picks side by side. This quickly rules out the colors that fight your flooring or furniture.
  2. Narrow to two. Most people land between a "safe" pick (Celery, Cottage Door) and a bolder one (Grounded, French Press Coffee).
  3. Buy physical samples. Paint large swatches or use peel-and-stick sheets on two walls, and look at them morning, afternoon and night. Our guide to testing paint colors before buying walks through it.
  4. Check the trim and ceiling plan. Darker picks like French Press Coffee and Grounded need a lighter trim or a full color-drench approach.

Here is what an AI wall repaint preview looks like on a real room. This one is a charcoal accent wall rather than a 2027 pick, but the workflow is identical for Celery or Artifact:

On-screen colors are approximate. Monitor settings and photo lighting shift what you see, so always confirm with a physical sample on your wall. Frequently asked questions

What is the 2027 color of the year?

Each brand chooses its own. Sherwin-Williams picked Celery (SW 6421), Behr picked Grounded (T27-01), Valspar picked Cottage Door (8004-38E), and Glidden picked Artifact (PPG10-16). Dunn-Edwards, Dutch Boy, C2, Clark+Kensington, Minwax and others have also announced.

Has Benjamin Moore announced its 2027 color of the year?

Not as of October 12, 2026. Benjamin Moore's 2027 page still reads "Coming Soon." The brand announced its 2026 color, Silhouette AF-655, on October 16, 2025, so a mid-October reveal would fit its usual timing. We will add it here once it is official.

When does Pantone announce the 2027 Color of the Year?

Pantone has not announced its 2027 color yet. It typically reveals its pick in early December; the 2026 color, Cloud Dancer, was announced in early December 2025.

What color family is trending for 2027?

Muted greens, warm browns and clay tones, and softened blues. Nearly every 2027 pick falls into one of those three groups, and none of the major brands chose a cool gray or a stark white.

Is Sherwin-Williams Celery a good color for a whole room?

Usually, yes. With an LRV of about 71, per Sherwin-Williams, it is light enough for full walls and even small rooms. Its yellow undertone can intensify under warm bulbs, so test a large sample at night as well as during the day.

Are colors of the year worth following?

Use them as a shortlist, not a rule. They are well-researched starting points, but brands also pick them to sell paint. The right color is the one that works with your light, floors and furniture, which only a preview and a physical sample can tell you.
