Questions

How many colors should a house exterior have?

Most houses look settled with three roles: a body color, a trim color and one accent, usually the front door. Gutters either match the trim so they disappear or go dark to outline the roof, and shutters can share the door color. Count the roof, brick or stone as a fixed color you are designing around.

Should gutters match the trim or the house?

Matching gutters to the trim keeps the roofline quiet, which suits traditional houses. Black or dark bronze gutters outline the roof and suit modern farmhouse and contemporary looks, especially with a dark roof. Matching the body color hides them on a dark house.

How do I test an exterior color combination before painting?

Buy sample quarts, paint large boards and look at them on several sides of the house in morning and afternoon light, next to the roof and any brick. Before that, upload a photo of your house to preview the whole combination with AI and narrow the shortlist.

Try any combination on your house

Upload a photo of your house; the AI keeps the roofline, windows and doors and repaints body, trim, door and gutters.
