When it works

This combo depends on contrast, so it needs trim worth outlining: window casings, fascia, corner boards and porch posts. On a house with thin or few trim pieces, the white just looks like stray lines. Black Beauty is a soft near-black, slightly gentler than pure black, which takes the edge off the contrast. Chantilly Lace is a clean, bright white that stays crisp beside it. It works in open, sunny settings and against trees; in deep shade the body can read as a dark hole, so preview the shaded side.

House styles it suits

Modern farmhouse, cottage, contemporary and Tudor homes all take it well. On a Tudor, the white emphasizes half-timbering in reverse; on a cottage, it feels storybook rather than severe.

Roof, brick and stone

Black shingles keep the top of the house quiet and let the white trim do the talking. A black metal roof works too. Red brick fights the black; whitewashed or painted brick, or gray stone, sits much better. Keep hardware black or bronze.

Sheen and maintenance

Low-sheen or flat on the black body hides imperfections, while satin or semi-gloss on the white trim makes it pop and clean easily. Dark bodies fade and chalk faster on sun-facing walls than light ones, so plan touch-ups on the south and west sides. White trim near gutters shows dirt; rinse it seasonally. The walnut-stained door needs re-sealing every few years.

Questions

Black Beauty or Tricorn Black?

Both work. Black Beauty reads slightly softer; Tricorn Black is a more neutral, crisper black. Compare painted sample boards outdoors, side by side.

Will white trim look too stark?

On a near-black body, a bright white is what makes the look. If you prefer softer contrast, a warmer off-white works, but the effect becomes more traditional.
