When it works

Adirondack Blue is a dusty mid-tone with a gray cast, so it reads calm rather than nursery-bright. It shines in coastal light and on streets with mature trees. On a north-facing facade it can turn cooler and heavier, so test it there first. Behr Ultra Pure White is a true clean white that gives the trim sharp edges, and the red door adds one confident note of warmth. It suits medium houses best; on a very large facade, the blue can feel like a lot of one color, so break it up with porches, shutters or landscaping.

House styles it suits

Coastal homes, Cape Cods, Victorians and cottages are the obvious fits, since all of them have the trim detail that white outlines so well. On a Victorian, use the white to pick out brackets and window casings.

Roof, brick and stone

Slate-gray shingles echo the gray in the blue and keep everything cool and coherent. Black or charcoal shingles also work. Avoid brown roofs here. Red brick can look busy next to a red door, so with a brick foundation, consider a navy or black door instead. Gray stone is an easy match.

Sheen and maintenance

Low-sheen or satin on the siding, satin or semi-gloss on trim, and semi-gloss or gloss on the red door so it reads rich and wipes clean. Reds can fade in strong direct sun, so a south-facing door may need a fresh coat sooner than the rest of the house.

Questions

Will Adirondack Blue look too bright?

Unlikely; its gray undertone keeps it muted. Outdoors it may actually read lighter than the swatch, so view a sample at several times of day.

Does my HOA need to approve a blue house?

Many HOAs maintain approved palettes and some restrict saturated body colors. Check before buying paint, and bring the exact names and codes to the request.

Can I swap the red door?

Yes. Navy, black or a natural wood door all work. Upload a photo of your house and preview the colors with AI before buying paint.
