Kitchen remodel cost calculator
Get a low, typical and high budget for your kitchen from its size and how far you're going, plus where the money usually goes. Built on published national figures, cited below.
New cabinets, counters, fixtures and flooring in the same layout.
How this works: we multiply your size by the published installed range of $75-$250 per sq ft and use the lower, middle or upper third of that range for your scope. The thirds are our own arithmetic on the published range. Prices vary a lot by region and by home, so get at least three local bids.

Where kitchen budgets go
Cabinets are the single biggest line, around 30% of the total. Appliances are about 14%, countertops about 10%, lighting about 5% and plumbing fixtures about 4% (NKBA guidance, as reported). The remaining third covers installation, demolition, flooring, walls and the rest. Refacing or painting cabinets instead of replacing them is the biggest single lever on cost.
What moves your price
Moving plumbing, gas or walls; custom versus stock cabinets; stone versus laminate counters; and your local labor market. We don't apply a regional multiplier because there isn't a clean public one for remodeling, so treat the result as a national ballpark and get at least three local bids. Questions
How much does a kitchen remodel cost?
HomeAdvisor puts a typical kitchen remodel at about $14,600 to $41,600, averaging around $27,000, or $75 to $250 per sq ft. The 2025 Cost vs. Value report lists a midrange minor kitchen remodel at $28,458 and a midrange major remodel at $82,793 nationally.
What is the most expensive part of a kitchen remodel?
Cabinets, at roughly 30% of the budget. Installation labor and appliances come next. Keeping the layout (so plumbing and gas stay put) is the other big way to control cost.
How is this estimate calculated?
Your floor area times the published $75 to $250 per sq ft range. For scope we use the lower, middle or upper third of that range; the thirds are our own arithmetic. It is a planning estimate, not a quote.
Does a kitchen remodel pay off at resale?
Partly. In the 2025 Cost vs. Value report, minor midrange kitchen remodels recouped more of their cost than major or upscale ones. Remodel for how you live first, and treat resale as a bonus.
